Partnerships and programmes
At Primark, we have established longer term projects and programmes that aim to deepen our engagement and understanding of some of the key challenges and issues in our supply chains.
Some of these programmes take us out beyond the factory gate, into the communities in which our products are made. Others are closer to home, such as our educational work with teachers, students, and young people.
All of these programmes involve engagement with external partners, from international government and local industry bodies, to non-governmental organisations here in the UK, to smaller grassroots advocacy groups who work at community level.
Wherever possible we choose to work local, independent partners, to support and build capacity in the countries we source from. Many of these relationships have turned into long term partnerships, and are a cornerstone of our strategy and approach. They include:
Bangladesh – focusing on women’s health. Empowering women workers through health care and health education through partnerships with grassroots NGOs and global experts
UK – the Schools Project. A collaboration with Aylesbury High School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology to create a learning and educational portal for young people and students on ethical trading.
India – financial inclusion for workers. Helping factory workers to save and manage their money safely by providing bank accounts and financial literacy programmes.
Philippines – working with homeworkers. Improving the livelihoods of homeworkers and their communities through multi-stakeholder engagement from government to industry
